LA transport: match your home to an operating corridor

A quick way to turn rail maps and driving routes into a realistic shortlist.

Put both ends on the map

A home near rail is useful when the destination connection works too. Start with Metro's operating maps, identify the actual station entrances and include any bus or walk beyond them. Test the return at the hour you normally finish, particularly if your schedule differs from ordinary office hours.

Do not commute on a project map

The D Line is a good example of why current status matters. Check the extension project page to distinguish the opened first section from later work. A planned station can be relevant to a long-term view of an area without providing the journey you need on the day you move in.

Regional trains are a different timetable

For Burbank or Glendale, consult Metrolink schedules rather than assuming Metro-style service. Plot the local connection between the station and your actual destination. The station name does not tell you the walking distance to every workplace in that city.

Try the ordinary load

Walk the route carrying a bag, or with the stroller or mobility equipment you normally use. Include slopes, road crossings and building access. If driving, add parking at both ends and repeat the journey in both directions. The full transportation guide explains the current fare example and the major corridor distinctions without assigning a single transport answer to the whole region.
