Bennett Place State Historic Site

Bennett Place preserves the Durham setting where negotiations led to a major Confederate surrender in 1865.

Reconstructed farm buildings and interpretation connect the meetings between military leaders with the wider end of the Civil War. The relatively modest landscape offers an important contrast to the scale of the events discussed here.
Check current tour, visitor-center, and program arrangements before arriving. Allow time to read the historical context and walk the designated grounds, especially if your interest extends beyond the surrender meetings themselves.
