Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank is a landmark of Southern California roadside architecture as well as a working restaurant.

Its sweeping roofline and tall sign reflect Wayne McAllister’s transition from Streamline Moderne forms toward the coffee-shop designs of the 1950s.
The photograph shows the actual Riverside Drive building. The operator also advertises a recurring classic-car gathering, which has separate timing from ordinary dining. Check current hours and the event calendar before travelling, and expect a working business rather than a museum. Keep entrances and parking circulation clear when photographing the sign, and arrange any commercial filming separately.
