Caldwell Woods provides a wooded recreation landscape on Chicago’s northwest side, with picnic groves and access to the North Branch Trail.

Floodplain forest, oak woodland and savanna habitats give this relatively compact preserve a varied natural character.
The photograph shows the actual preserve entrance. Use the Forest Preserves’ current map for trail connections and picnic locations, and check maintenance notices before setting out. Reserved groves and organized activities require separate arrangements. Nearby Bunker Hill is another preserve with its own access points. Stay on permitted routes, respect restoration areas and share multiuse trails with other visitors.
