Carnton

Carnton preserves a historic Franklin plantation house that became a field hospital after the 1864 Battle of Franklin.

Carnton

The house, grounds and nearby Confederate cemetery connect the violence of the battle with the lives of the household and surrounding community.

Choose a tour from the Battle of Franklin Trust’s current program, which includes opportunities to examine slavery and the people enslaved at Carnton. The site is best understood through both plantation history and wartime medicine, rather than the battle alone. Check booking and access arrangements before arriving, and allow time for the grounds as well as the guided interior.
