Edward L. Ryerson Conservation Area protects woodland and river habitat in the Riverwoods area.

Its trails and education facilities offer several ways to explore the natural landscape beside the Des Plaines River.
Use the Lake County Forest Preserves’ current map and visitor information to choose a route. Trails, educational programs and building access have different arrangements. The photograph shows the historic Ryerson country house within the preserve rather than a promise of routine interior tours. Stay on authorized routes, respect sensitive habitat and check seasonal notices before planning around a specific program or facility.
Visitor details reviewed October 18, 2026. Check official visitor information for current access, admission, and operating arrangements. View on OpenStreetMap.
