Fort Snelling State Park protects river-bottom habitat around the meeting of the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers.

Trails and interpretation introduce a landscape important to Dakota history and to the ecology of the Twin Cities’ major waterways.
Check current DNR conditions before travelling, because flooding can close low-lying roads and trails. This is the state park, with visiting arrangements separate from the nearby historic fort. The photograph shows the Thomas C. Savage Visitor Center rather than an assurance that every facility or river route is open.
