John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez preserves the naturalist’s home and associated landscapes.

House interpretation, orchards and the separate Mount Wanda trail area connect his writing and family life with the conservation causes he championed.
The photograph shows Mount Wanda, a separate part of the site with a different trail entrance from the house and visitor center. Use the current National Park Service map to plan the experience you want. House access, ranger programs and outdoor routes follow different arrangements. Check fire, heat and trail notices, and allow time to consider the wider history behind Muir’s public legacy.
