Joliet Iron Works Historic Site preserves the remains of a major industrial complex beside the Des Plaines River.

An interpretive route connects concrete foundations and other surviving features with the work once carried out here. The natural setting creates a striking contrast with the scale of the former iron and steel operation.
Use the forest preserve district's current map and visitor notices to plan your walk. Remain on the designated interpretive trail and avoid climbing ruins, which are protected historical features. Wear suitable shoes for outdoor conditions and check connections separately if continuing onto the nearby canal trail.
