Mission San Gabriel Arcángel remains an active Catholic parish as well as a major historic site.

Its buildings connect the city with Spanish mission colonization and the lives of Indigenous Tongva communities whose history extends far beyond the mission itself.
Confirm current museum and historic-church visiting arrangements separately from worship services. The photograph records the mission exterior; restoration following the 2020 fire changed parts of the visitor experience. Respect ceremonies, staff directions and closed rooms. Guided interpretation can provide context beyond the architecture, while group visits should be organized ahead.
