National Butterfly Center in Mission maintains an outdoor habitat for butterflies and other wildlife of the lower Rio Grande Valley.

Native vegetation and garden areas offer opportunities to observe insects within a landscape shaped by the region’s climate and migration routes.
Check weather-dependent opening and admission before visiting. Wildlife sightings vary with season and conditions; this is an outdoor preserve rather than an enclosed tropical butterfly house. The photograph shows the entrance building. Remain on permitted paths, avoid handling wildlife and arrange group interpretation separately. Bring appropriate sun protection and water for time outside.
