P.J. Hoffmaster State Park protects Lake Michigan dunes and shoreline near Norton Shores.

Woodland routes, dune landscapes and the Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center connect outdoor recreation with interpretation of the lake’s shifting coastal environment.
The photograph shows a dune during an earlier visit. The entire park is scheduled to close November 20–23, 2026 for a managed deer hunt, including day-use areas and trails. Check current state alerts before travelling at any other time, as campground and visitor-center operation also vary seasonally. Stay on designated routes, protect dune vegetation and confirm entry requirements and the terrain suitable for your group.
