A historic estate and state park on Main Highway in Coconut Grove.

The Barnacle Historic State Park preserves Ralph Middleton Munroe’s home and waterfront grounds on Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove. Munroe was a boat designer and the first commodore of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club. His house, completed in 1891, is the oldest in Miami-Dade County still standing in its original location.
The original bungalow used broad porches and a roof cupola for shade and ventilation. Later, the family raised the structure and added a new floor underneath. Guided house tours show rooms furnished with family heirlooms; the surrounding grounds and boathouse connect the property with Coconut Grove’s maritime past. House tours have separate arrangements from admission to the park grounds.
