A historic museum estate and gardens on South Miami Avenue.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens preserves James Deering’s winter estate on Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove. Work on the Main House began in 1914, and Deering first stayed there in December 1916. Its Mediterranean-inspired architecture and historic interiors reflect the ambitions of an early twentieth-century waterfront estate.
The formal gardens unfold as outdoor rooms, with geometric hedges, sculptures and coral-stone structures. The Secret Garden, Theater Garden and Maze Garden have different layouts, while native rockland hammock and mangrove shoreline survive beside the designed landscape. Vizcaya Village is a separate part of the estate across South Miami Avenue; its programs and visits have their own arrangements.
