Choose the line that reaches your destination
Start with WMATA's current maps and schedules, not an old visitor map. A home near a station on the right corridor can be more useful than a geographically closer home requiring a transfer and a long final walk. Identify the station entrance near your actual workplace or regular appointment. Plan the return at the time you usually leave; an outward journey that works well in the morning is only half the commute.
Georgetown has no Metrorail station
For a Georgetown destination or home, investigate the current bus connection or the walk from an appropriate station. A route via Foggy Bottom and one involving Rosslyn and the river crossing are different practical journeys, not interchangeable map shortcuts. Test the slope, bridge or sidewalk you would actually use. If you need step-free travel or carry equipment, evaluate that complete route rather than treating the nearest rail symbol as proof of convenient access.
Adams Morgan's station name needs a closer look
Woodley Park–Zoo/Adams Morgan station is not in the center of the 18th Street and Columbia Road activity. A listing using the station's full name can sound closer to your desired destination than the actual walk. Map the route from the precise building, including the bridge and changes in elevation where relevant. Compare it with a current bus option or another station before deciding which address best supports your routine.
The waterfronts have different arrival points
For the Wharf in Southwest and for Navy Yard, identify the destination's actual entrance and the station you would use. The riverfront promenade, apartment entrance, venue and rail platform are separate points. If events are part of the area's appeal, test a return during relevant activity and keep an alternative route in mind. A quieter visit is still useful for inspecting the home, but should not be your only evidence about a busy destination.
Crossing into Maryland or Virginia can work well
Bethesda, Silver Spring and Rockville sit in Red Line searches; Arlington and Alexandria offer other corridors. Use the operating map to check the exact service rather than relying on an outdated terminal name or a promised future project. Include the first local leg from a home away from the station. In Falls Church, the station name alone does not place you in the independent city's downtown.
Price and test the complete journey
Use WMATA's current trip and fare information for your origin, destination and travel time. Add local operators, parking or occasional paid rides separately where needed. Check current bus routes instead of copying route numbers from an old article. For a scouting visit, perform one ordinary trip with groceries or your usual bag and one return at your normal evening hour. That gives you evidence about the walk, wait and connections—and a much better basis for choosing a home than the broad claim that a neighborhood is “Metro accessible.”
