DC daily life: build a small circuit you will repeat
Look beyond monuments to the market street, library, park and trip home.

Pick a neighborhood circuit
Try the walk between a Capitol Hill candidate and Eastern Market, or between a Columbia Heights home and the shops you would use on 14th Street. Then return by the residential block where you would live. Destination DC's neighborhood directory can help choose the first area, but your useful result is a short repeatable route rather than a completed sightseeing list.
Visit the waterfront you would actually use
The Wharf in Southwest and the Navy Yard riverfront are different destinations with different station and building entrances. If waterfront time is part of the attraction, follow the public route from the home and notice how event activity changes the experience. Do not assume a water view provides the same convenience as an easy walk to the promenade.
Find an indoor anchor
Check DC Public Library locations for a nearby branch, its current hours and relevant programs. Pair it with a regular shop and an outdoor destination. These practical places can make settling in easier than a long list of attractions you visit only once.
Return during your ordinary evening
For a unit near restaurants, venues or a stadium, listen from the rooms you would use when the area is active. For a quieter block, test the journey home from the place you expect to spend evenings. Keep your own preferences visible: the aim is a routine you enjoy, without assigning one lifestyle or personality to everyone living in a neighborhood.
