About Lincoln Park
Lincoln Park combines a residential neighborhood and commercial streets with the larger lakefront park that shares its name. The zoo, conservatory and North Avenue Beach provide distinct outdoor and cultural destinations. Armitage and Halsted form a shopping area inland from that park landscape.
A park with several separate landmarks
The lakefront park contains Lincoln Park Zoo, Lincoln Park Conservatory and the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool. The nearby Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Chicago History Museum add further cultural destinations.
North Avenue Beach and the Lakefront Trail provide an outdoor setting beyond those institutions. The neighborhood and the long park are related places, with different footprints.
Armitage and Halsted inland from the lake
The shopping district around Armitage and Halsted includes businesses in historic rowhouses. This commercial setting sits inland from the zoo and lakefront destinations.
It gives a residential outing a different focus from a park visit. A walk centered on the commercial streets reveals another part of Lincoln Park’s building pattern.
Fullerton as a rail reference point
Fullerton is a CTA station on the Red, Brown and Purple lines. Its elevated setting is a different arrival point from a destination inside the lakefront park.
The station and the Armitage–Halsted shopping area provide useful named references on the neighborhood’s inland side. The beach, zoo and conservatory remain separate endpoints toward the lake.
