Historic streetfront housing, market errands and the Downtown streetcar
About Over-the-Rhine
Over-the-Rhine’s older streetfront buildings sit north of Downtown around Findlay Market and Washington Park. Mercer Commons on Walnut Street supplies one rental example with in-home laundry and garage parking. Findlay’s farmers market has a shorter weekend shopping window than the market house, and the Connector links the district with Downtown and the Banks.
Italianate streets and a named rental example on Walnut Street
Cincinnati’s planning department identifies Over-the-Rhine as a major concentration of Italianate buildings. The style appears in houses and commercial premises, with tall windows, bracketed cornices and recessed doorways among its characteristic features.
Mercer Commons, at 1341 Walnut Street, lists in-home washers and dryers, dishwashers and central heating and air conditioning. Its community features include an elevator, controlled access, a fitness center and central garage parking. A parking price is not published on that amenities page. Leasing information is available at 513-327-5695.
Findlay Market and Court Street serve different shopping windows
Findlay Market at 1801 Race Street lists 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Tuesday–Friday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Sunday; Monday is closed. Its Farm Shed farmers market finishes earlier, at 2 p.m. on both weekend days. A Sunday visit after 2 p.m. can reach the market house after the farmers market has ended.
Kroger On the Rhine is at 100 East Court Street, at the southern approach from Over-the-Rhine toward Downtown. The store’s department list includes produce and other perishables, a bakery, deli and self-checkout. Its phone is 513-263-5900.
The Connector loop has a shorter Sunday service window
The Connector’s 3.6-mile loop links Over-the-Rhine with Downtown and the Banks, including access to Washington Park and Findlay Market. The streetcar is free to ride. Its low-floor vehicles provide level boarding from the curb for wheelchairs, strollers, bicycles and shopping carts.
The City publishes core hours of 7:30 a.m.–11:30 p.m. Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–11:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m. Sunday. Selected events receive extended service. These ordinary hours leave early-morning trips and late Sunday returns outside the regular operating window.
Washington Park adds play space and an event calendar
Washington Park at 1230 Elm Street has a fenced children’s playground, dog park and gathering spaces near Music Hall. The playground includes climbing structures, slides, a canal boat and musical instruments; its rules require children to be supervised by a responsible adult.
The park operator, 3CDC, publishes a public event calendar with concerts, jazz, trivia and outdoor workouts among the listed programs.
