Apartments on Wealthy Street

Eastown Flats at 1400–1415 Wealthy Street SE offers studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts above and alongside ground-floor businesses. Its amenities page lists a washer/dryer combo in each unit, a dishwasher and other high-efficiency appliances. This puts laundry within the apartment instead of requiring a separate trip to a shared building laundry.

The property also advertises on-site parking and balconies. The amenities page does not quote a parking charge or say that household utilities are included in rent. Those omissions leave the base rent short of a complete monthly cost figure; they should not be read as free parking or included bills. The leasing number is 616-631-7769.

Route 6 connects Eastown with downtown and Woodland

Route 6 Eastown links Rapid Central Station with Kentwood Station–Woodland through the Lake Drive and Wealthy Street corridor. The operator’s northbound stop list includes Wealthy/Lake, Lake/Post Office and Lake/Carlton. Posted departures at Wealthy/Lake are roughly half-hourly through much of weekday daytime, while the Sunday table is approximately hourly.

One Sunday northbound example leaves Wealthy/Lake at 6:45 a.m. and reaches Rapid Central Station at 7:05 a.m.; the last listed Sunday departure there is 6:50 p.m. Those are scheduled stop-to-stop journeys, with the southbound return shown separately. The standard adult fare is $1.75. Cash has no transfer allowance; an adult Wave card caps spending at $5.25 daily and $60 per calendar month.

Wilcox Park for play and outdoor recreation

Wilcox Park’s city listing gives 1561 Robinson Road SE and includes a playground, picnic shelter, tennis and basketball courts, soccer space and a baseball field. These facilities provide outdoor recreation within the neighborhood, separate from the shops and restaurants along Wealthy Street.

The splashpad entrance is listed at 100 Youell Avenue SE. Admission is free during the summer operating season; the posted 2026 season ran June 6–September 13. Water play is therefore a seasonal benefit, while a park listing should not be taken to mean that the splashpad operates throughout the year.

Nearby Ottawa Hills Library: Wednesday evening access

Ottawa Hills Branch at 1150 Giddings Avenue SE is a nearby library option beyond Eastown’s main business streets. It has public computers, printing, Wi-Fi, hold lockers and a drive-up book drop, with free parking in its lot. The branch phone is 616-988-5412.

Regular hours are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and Wednesday noon–8 p.m.; Monday and Sunday are closed. Wednesday supplies the later evening for someone needing a computer or printer after work.

A community garden and volunteer winter help

The Eastown Community Association’s garden is behind its office at 415 Ethel Avenue SE. Plots are assigned individually for each growing season, with enquiries directed to Garden@eastown.org. This offers a way to grow food for residents whose rental has no usable garden space.

The association also organizes Snow Angels, a volunteer snow-and-ice clearing effort running December 1–March 31. It can provide volunteers with equipment including shovels and access to a snowblower. It is a volunteer program rather than a guaranteed household snow-removal service. The association’s general number is 616-451-3025.
