Millyard apartments, parking costs and daily errands

About Downtown

Downtown Manchester brings Elm Street businesses and the Millyard into one central area. Lofts at Mill Number One offers one- and two-bedroom apartments on Bedford Street. Monthly parking is a separate consideration, while Market Basket on lower Elm Street and the main library on Pine Street anchor everyday errands.

Lofts at Mill Number One lists in-unit laundry

Lofts at Mill Number One, 300 Bedford Street, converts a historic mill into one- and two-bedroom apartments. Some two-bedroom layouts add a den. Exposed brick, beams and wood floors are part of the operator’s description of this building, while its apartment amenities include a washer and dryer and central air conditioning.

The community lists elevators, off-street parking, package receiving and a fitness center. Its “high speed internet capable” description does not say that internet service is included in rent. Monthly animal rent is $50 per dog or $25 per cat, with a maximum of two animals per apartment; dog breed restrictions and a 50-pound-per-dog limit apply.

Monthly street permits and Victory Garage have different prices

The city lists downtown ten-hour-zone street permits and Millyard zone permits at $55 per month, compared with $85 per month for Victory Garage. The garage permit is listed as valid around the clock, with monthly payments. Several other municipal lots are marked sold out or closed, so a published price does not establish availability.

Weekday meters are enforced from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The city specifies Saturday enforcement from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Elm Street between Granite and Bridge streets. Two-hour zones require moving to another block; after 5 p.m., the city allows longer meter stays while payment continues. Winter and declared snow-emergency restrictions apply separately.

Market Basket on lower Elm handles a full grocery shop

Market Basket at 460 Elm Street is a grocery destination south along the Elm Street corridor. Store departments include produce, meat, seafood, a deli and prepared foods from Market’s Kitchen. The operator lists opening hours of 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday–Saturday and 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Sunday.

The Pine Street library has three late-opening weekdays

Manchester’s main library is at 405 Pine Street, east of Elm Street. Alongside books and other materials, the city lists internet access, technology instruction and classes. It stays open until 8 p.m. Tuesday–Thursday, closes at 5 p.m. Monday and Friday, and opens 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday. The West Side branch is a separate library across the river.

Distances are approximate. They are straight lines from the centre of Downtown, not travel distances, and a home at the edge of the area can be noticeably closer to or farther from a school.
