Central park, East Montague and everyday services
About Park Circle
Park Circle’s central park and East Montague’s shops create two distinct neighborhood destinations. Inclusive play, a free Jenkins Avenue gallery and a Monitor Street pool support local routines. CARTA Route 104 provides bus connections, and the city provides an address-based process for obtaining elevation certificates.
The circle and East Montague serve different routines
Park Circle grew as a planned garden community around a central circular park. East Montague Avenue and the Olde Village District form a separate concentration of restaurants, shops and evening venues. A home advertised as “Park Circle” may sit beyond that commercial stretch; the park entrance and the East Montague businesses are separate destinations when judging the walk from a particular street.
Inclusive play at the center
The park at 4800 Park Circle has an inclusive playground, accessible turf baseball field and walking paths. Pavilion restrooms include adult changing stations, and accessible parking spaces have no curbing. The combination of play areas, changing facilities and accessible parking supports outings with different mobility and care needs.
A free gallery and a separate ceramics studio
Park Circle Gallery, at 4820 Jenkins Avenue, changes exhibitions monthly and has free admission. The Cultural Arts Department lists Wednesday–Friday hours of 10:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and Saturday noon–4 p.m.; it is closed Sunday–Tuesday.
Park Circle Ceramics operates at 1103 Marquis Road. Its paint-your-own pottery studio is first come, first served. Piece prices include paint, tools and firing, with finished work usually collected about two weeks later, so allow for a return visit to pick it up.
Seasonal produce shopping at the pavilion
The city’s farmers market uses the pavilion at 4800 Park Circle on Thursday afternoons during its published season. Produce stalls share the site with craft and specialty-food vendors. The city posts annual dates on its market page, including the end of the autumn season. For residents, the market adds a produce-shopping stop to an afternoon at the circle.
The Montague bus and Monitor Street pool
CARTA Route 104’s Park Circle/Park Place East timepoints connect with the North Charleston Transit Center, SuperStop and Tanger Outlets. Its linked brochure has weekday and Saturday tables. A commute that needs another bus depends on the transfer, not just being near the circle.
The North Charleston Sports Complex pool is at 1455 Monitor Street, separate from the Aquatic Center on Patriot Boulevard. For regular lap swimming or family visits, use the Sports Complex’s monthly open-swim calendar: general building hours do not mean the pool is available for recreation throughout the day.
Elevation records for an individual home
North Charleston’s Building Department may hold an elevation certificate for a newer or substantially improved home. Its request process uses a FOIA form with the property address or tax-map number; fees may apply. If none is on file, obtaining a new certificate requires a survey by an engineer or land surveyor. The floodplain manager’s published number is 843-740-2559. An existing certificate can give a buyer structure-specific elevation information before commissioning new survey work.
