About Townsite
Townsite includes Oceanside’s downtown around Coast Highway and Mission Avenue. The transit center, Thursday markets and Civic Center Library anchor daily trips, while the pier and shoreline are nearby destinations. Street-parking permits depend on the address, and station lots have separate rules from residential parking.
Coastal and inland trains from South Tremont Street
Oceanside Transit Center is at 205 South Tremont Street. COASTER runs along the coast toward San Diego; SPRINTER heads inland toward Vista, San Marcos and Escondido. The hub also connects with BREEZE buses, Metrolink and Amtrak.
Station parking has different rules from residential parking
NCTD’s station lots are for transit customers. Overnight parking requires a request to Customer Experience at 760-966-6500; it is not general overnight parking for a nearby home. NCTD separately lists the city garage at 290 Seagaze Drive and Lot 27 at 200–600 South Myers Street as day-use parking, subject to posted city rules.
A downtown address does not automatically qualify for a street permit
The Beach Area Resident program covers eligible addresses within the metered and four-hour parking area, with resident and guest permits costing $10 each. The annual beach-lot permit is a separate program: $100 for permanent residents and $200 for nonresidents, covering designated beach and harbor pay lots. For a rental without its own space, the address’s permit eligibility matters more than the neighborhood name. Virtual permits activate after approval and payment.
Thursday has two different markets
The morning farmers market runs 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at Pier View Way and North Coast Highway, offering produce, flowers and food stalls. The Sunset Market follows from 5–9 p.m. on Pier View Way west of Freeman Street and across Coast Highway, with hot food, shopping and live entertainment.
MainStreet posts weather cancellations and other weekly changes on its Sunset Market page.
Civic Center Library for printing and computer access
Civic Center Library is at 330 North Coast Highway. It opens Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–7 p.m., and Friday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; it closes Sundays. Printing, scanning, copying and faxing are available. Public computer sessions are limited to two hours per person per day, useful for move-in paperwork but not an unlimited desk for a full workday.
The shoreline route changes south of the pier
The Strand carries cars and bicycles as well as pedestrians. At Tyson Street Park, stairs from Pacific Street lead to the beach and a park with restrooms, showers and a playground. Farther south at Wisconsin Street, high tide can leave little or no sand. A beachfront home there offers a different walking routine from one beside the wider pier beaches; South Strand also runs one-way southbound.
