Castillo de San Marcos
- Historic masonry fort
- Regional draw
- St. Augustine
Castillo de San Marcos overlooks Matanzas Bay in St.

Augustine. Its coquina walls, courtyard and gun positions reveal centuries of military engineering while interpretation connects the fort with Spanish rule, imprisonment and the region’s many intersecting communities.
Check National Park Service alerts, admission and the current demonstration schedule before arriving. The photograph shows the fort. Interior rooms, ramparts and the surrounding grounds have different access considerations, and historic stairs or weather can limit routes. Respect barriers and preserved masonry; special programs and group visits may need separate planning.
