Centre Furnace Mansion near State College preserves the ironmaster’s residence associated with an early charcoal-iron operation.

Furnished rooms, grounds and interpretation connect the site with industrial work and the beginnings of what became Penn State.
Check the historical society’s current docent-led tour arrangements before arriving. The photograph shows the mansion. Visits may include a walk to the surviving furnace stack when conditions allow, so treat these as parts of one historical site. Groups should arrange ahead, and upper-floor access uses stairs; ask about suitable options for your mobility needs.
