Chief Looking’s Village in Bismarck preserves the site of a Mandan earth-lodge community above the Missouri River.

An interpretive trail explains the settlement, while the overlook connects its history with the surrounding river landscape.
The photograph shows the actual village-site grounds. The park district lists an unpaved interpretive loop and connections to wider walking and cycling routes. Gate access is seasonal, generally May through October depending on weather, so check current conditions before travelling to Burnt Boat Drive. Stay on designated routes and leave archaeological features undisturbed. Reserving the pergola is separate from an ordinary visit.
