Don Castro Regional Recreation Area provides reservoir scenery, picnic space and trail connections near Fairview and Hayward.

A separate swimming lagoon is a seasonal recreation feature beside the main reservoir. The photograph shows the actual reservoir from near Woodroe Avenue.
The operator currently lists the swim lagoon as reopening for the 2027 season. The reservoir itself is closed to boating, swimming and other body contact, so distinguish it from the designated lagoon. Check current parking hours, seasonal fees and trail notices before visiting. Fishing requires the appropriate state license, while group picnic areas have separate reservation arrangements.
