Great Falls Park offers dramatic views of the Potomac River as it passes through rocky falls and the head of Mather Gorge in Virginia.

Overlooks and trails combine river scenery with interpretation of the historic Patowmack Canal.
Use current National Park Service maps and alerts to choose a route and check entrance arrangements. The Unsplash photograph shows the Potomac rapids from the Virginia setting, not a safe swimming area or present water conditions. Remain behind barriers and follow closures around cliffs and flood-prone routes. The Maryland side has separate entrances and visitor facilities.
