Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint

- Regional draw
- Bend
Pilot Butte rises from Bend as an old volcanic cinder cone, offering a distinctive way to see the city within its high-desert surroundings.
Trails climb through juniper and sage toward a summit panorama that takes in the Cascade skyline when conditions are clear.
The uphill walk involves elevation gain, so allow time for the ascent and choose footwear suited to the trail surface. Oregon State Parks posts current notices about construction, trail access and the seasonal summit road. Check those notices before visiting; vehicle access is seasonal and should not be assumed even when walking routes are available.
