Prime Desert Woodland Preserve protects a pocket of desert habitat within Lancaster, with several miles of trails through native vegetation.

California juniper and other desert plants reward close observation along the routes. The Elyze Clifford Interpretive Center provides additional context about local wildlife, geology and people.
Trail access and interpretive-center hours differ, so check current city information before combining both. Dogs and bicycles are prohibited on preserve trails, and visitors must remain on marked routes. Heavy rain or snow can affect access. Carry water and plan for sun exposure even when making a relatively short urban nature visit.
Visitor details reviewed October 27, 2026. Consult primary place information for background, and confirm current access and operating arrangements before visiting. View on OpenStreetMap.
