Sacramento History Museum explores the people and events that shaped the city before, during and after the Gold Rush.

Its home in a replica of the 1854 City Hall and Waterworks building provides a distinctive setting within the Old Sacramento Waterfront district.
Museum entry is separate from broader public access to Old Sacramento and from admission to the neighboring railroad museum. Check current exhibitions and holiday openings before visiting. Underground tours and other guided experiences have their own booking arrangements, so reserve the specific activity you want rather than assuming it is included with gallery admission.
Visitor details reviewed October 27, 2026. Consult primary place information for background, and confirm current access and operating arrangements before visiting. View on OpenStreetMap.
