Theodore Roosevelt Island

- Washington
Theodore Roosevelt Island combines wooded trails, wetland landscapes, and a memorial plaza in the Potomac River.

The island is in Washington, D.C., although its pedestrian approach is from the Virginia shore. Walking here offers a quieter way to experience the capital's landscape while visiting a memorial to the twenty-sixth president.
Check National Park Service alerts and directions before setting out. Access is by footbridge, with bicycles left at the racks near the approach rather than ridden on island trails. Wear shoes suitable for natural paths and boardwalks, and confirm parking or public-transport options before arriving on the Virginia side.
