Wailuku River State Park protects dramatic river scenery near Hilo, including the Rainbow Falls and Boiling Pots viewing areas.

The separate overlooks offer different perspectives on waterfalls, lava formations and the surrounding vegetation.
Plan each approach using current state-park information rather than assuming the viewpoints form one continuous safe riverside hike. The photograph shows Rainbow Falls and its distinctive lava-cave setting, not the Boiling Pots area or present water conditions. Remain behind barriers and follow closures; river flow can change quickly, and a scenic viewpoint does not imply safe swimming or access below the falls.
