Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History

An Independence Mall museum exploring American Jewish life through historical collections, personal stories, exhibitions, and family activities.

Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History

The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History places American Jewish experiences within the wider story of the United States. Its Independence Mall location makes it a natural companion to Philadelphia’s nearby historic sites, while its exhibitions invite visitors to consider migration, community, identity, and the different ways people have shaped American life.

Plan time for personal stories as well as historical displays. The museum offers family-oriented interactive elements and changing exhibitions, with public programs adding opportunities to explore particular themes. A docent overview can help give structure to a first visit, though tour availability should be confirmed with admissions rather than assumed. Visitor guides are available in several languages.

The entrance is at 5th and Market Streets, across from the Liberty Bell and within view of Independence Hall. General museum admission is currently free; special exhibitions and the family gallery may have separate booking arrangements. Check the reservation page and holiday calendar before visiting. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, elevators connect the floors, and sensory backpacks are available on a first-come basis.
