A city drainage project scheduled through December 2027 includes work around the Greenway, with planned street restrictions and possible utility interruptions.

Residential streets beside the Greenway

The city’s neighborhood association map places South Windermere west of Folly Road, with residential streets including Charlestowne Road, Sheridan Road, West Confederate Circle and Rebellion Road. South Windermere Center sits at the northeastern edge; Old Windermere is the separate neighborhood north of the Greenway.

The West Ashley Greenway follows a former railway corridor toward Main Road. The separate Ashley River Crossing bicycle and pedestrian bridge remains under construction, so it is a future connection to the peninsula.

CARTA Route 31 serves Folly Road Boulevard at Windermere Boulevard, then crosses to the peninsula for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) complex and Mary Street/Meeting Street near the visitor center. The timetable identifies stop 649 for the inbound Windermere timing point and stop 672 for the outbound trip toward James Island.

The brochure has separate weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules, with fewer Sunday departures. Southbound service continues along Folly Road and ends near Sol Legare Road; it does not reach Folly Beach. The current route directory links the complete timetable and live bus map.

Drainage work through December 2027

Charleston’s Windermere Drainage Improvement Project covers the Windermere East and South Windermere basins. The city lists a June 2026–December 2027 construction window, including larger drainage pipes, replacement culverts under William Ackerman Lane and another stormwater outfall.

Planned work affects Culbertson Drive, Chadwick Drive, Windermere Boulevard and William Ackerman Lane. The Greenway construction phase includes trail closure and pedestrian detours. Water and sewer interruptions may occur during utility moves, with brief gas shutoffs on William Ackerman Lane. Typical work hours are 7 a.m.–7 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday, with no Sunday work. The linked project viewer and city road-closure map provide updates for a particular journey.
