Old Colorado City centers on West Colorado Avenue’s shops and restaurants. Old North End has residential avenues north of Colorado College, with Monument Valley Park along its west side. For a move within Colorado Springs, the grocery trip, bus corridor and plans for an older house are useful differences between the two areas.
Housing: a commercial avenue or older residential streets
Old Colorado City’s central blocks mix historic storefronts, dining and galleries around 24th and 25th streets. A home entrance on that frontage has a different immediate setting from an adjoining residential street. Bedroom windows, delivery access and resident parking are useful details when viewing a property near the commercial core.
Old North End’s neighborhood history describes two- and three-storey Victorian homes as well as later bungalows and ranch houses. This is a reason to look beyond the landmark-house photograph: a porch-fronted Victorian and a later ranch can offer very different arrangements of rooms and levels.

Groceries: Uintah Street for the Westside, Wahsatch Avenue for Old North End
For Old Colorado City, King Soopers’ Westside Uintah store is at 1750 West Uintah Street and offers pickup. A weekly supermarket shop therefore has a different destination from dinner or browsing on Colorado Avenue. Route 16 serves the Uintah Gardens corridor, with a transfer point at Colorado Avenue and 26th Street.
For Old North End, Safeway at 2210 North Wahsatch Avenue posts daily grocery hours of 6 a.m.–11 p.m. and offers DriveUp & Go pickup. This puts a late food shop toward the eastern side of the neighborhood, while the park is on its western side. Store information was checked October 18, 2026.
Downtown journeys: Route 3, Nevada Avenue buses and the ZEB
The zero-fare Route 3 Westside Ride connects Old Colorado City with the Downtown terminal and Manitou Springs, ending at 10 Old Mans Trail. A job on Tejon Street adds the approach from the terminal near Nevada Avenue and Kiowa Street.
Sunday evenings deserve particular attention: the current Route 3 timetable lists the last westbound departure from the Downtown terminal at 5:15 p.m., compared with 9:45 p.m. Monday–Friday. A Sunday dinner Downtown can therefore outlast this bus connection back toward Old Colorado City. These are scheduled departures, checked October 18, 2026; the operator’s live service information covers disruptions.
From Old North End, Route 9 on Nevada Avenue connects the Downtown terminal with UCCS. The free Route 13 Downtown Ride instead loops at Cache La Poudre Street by Colorado College, south of Old North End’s Uintah Street boundary. Its shared ZEB branding does not make it a shuttle through the residential neighborhood.
Older-home projects: local overlay review matters in Old North End
The neighborhood association’s area description includes two National Register districts within the wider Old North End. Those mapped districts and the City’s local Historic Preservation Overlay have different roles.
The City’s preservation review guidance covers alterations, new structures and demolition within the overlay and links to North End design standards. A purchase budget built around replacement windows or an addition needs that project review early. Re-roofing has a separate City contact.
Park routines: Bancroft’s central gathering space or the creek corridor
Bancroft Park at 2408 West Colorado Avenue puts a bandshell, picnic shelter and paths beside Old Colorado City’s shops. The free History Center gallery at 1 South 24th Street faces the park. Together they make a compact first visit to the business district.
Monument Valley Park stretches along Old North End’s western side. Its northern portion has playing fields, a playground, paths and Greenway access; the outdoor pool, ponds and additional courts are farther south. Living beside the northern fields does not put the pool at the same entrance.
Library holds: Saturday pickup and Sunday closure
Old Colorado City Library is at 2418 West Pikes Peak Avenue, with Route 3 listed as its bus connection. Regular hours are 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday–Saturday, with Sunday closed.
A ready hold can be collected from numbered curbside stalls in front of the branch by following the stall’s instructions. The branch’s Sunday closure makes Saturday the last regular pickup opportunity of the weekend. Hours were checked October 18, 2026.
