Residential blocks east of High Street, the old Budd Dairy and a renewed neighborhood park
About Italian Village
Italian Village sits east of North High Street, between Interstate 670 and East Fifth Avenue. Residential blocks share the neighborhood with former industrial buildings, including the dairy now used by Budd Dairy Food Hall. Italian Village Park on East Hubbard Avenue adds a small public green space with a large mosaic mural.
East of High Street, with a separate historic district
The Italian Village Society describes its area as North High Street to the west, East Fifth Avenue to the north, the railroad right-of-way to the east and Interstate 670 to the south. High Street forms its edge along the Short North’s commercial corridor.
The city established the Italian Village Historic District in 1973. Exterior changes within that district go through its preservation commission; the High Street corridor follows the Short North Design Guidelines. The neighborhood area and the design review boundaries serve different purposes.
A former dairy plant on North Fourth Street
The Budd Dairy plant opened in December 1916 on Fourth Street between Fourth Avenue and Detroit Avenue. Its red brick, black mortar and terra-cotta facade enclosed milk-processing space and an upstairs assembly hall used for gatherings.
Milk processing ended in 1967. Today the building houses Budd Dairy Food Hall, where several chef partners operate under one roof.
Italian Village Park on East Hubbard Avenue
Italian Village Park is at 39 East Hubbard Avenue. The city celebrated its redevelopment in November 2025, with renewed green space and a large public artwork.
Andrew Hendrixson’s The Gathered is a glass mosaic mural measuring 50 by 12 feet.
