About Downtown

Downtown Fresno combines Fulton Street’s public art and historic commercial buildings with gallery spaces in the Cultural Arts District. ArtHop and Fulton StreetHop bring different kinds of evening activity, while FresnoHOP links the center with Tower and Campus Pointe.

Public art along the Fulton Street corridor

Fulton Street is one of Downtown’s main commercial corridors. Its former pedestrian mall reopened to traffic in 2017, while public art remains a feature of the surrounding streets and spaces. The Downtown Fresno Partnership’s art directory maps murals, sculptures and other works across the center.

Near Fulton and Inyo streets, George Tsutakawa’s Obos is a fountain rising about 13 feet. The artist linked its forms with the heavens, moon and sun. It gives a Fulton Street walk a specific landmark among the shops and older commercial buildings.

Gallery visits and a separate street event

ArtHop grew from visits between Downtown artists’ studios into a wider Fresno arts program. The Fresno Arts Council lists events on the first and third Thursdays of the month, with free entry to participating exhibitions, gallery shows and performances. Its venue map identifies the individual arts spaces.

On first Thursdays, Fulton StreetHop brings music, artists, food vendors and other stalls onto Fulton Street. That outdoor event has its own footprint and hours, alongside the gallery program. The Cultural Arts District and the commercial blocks farther south offer different settings within the same Downtown evening.

Evening connections to Tower and Campus Pointe

FresnoHOP serves the Cultural Arts District and Brewery District on its route between Campus Pointe and the Tower Theatre. The city lists regular Friday and Saturday service from 5 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with hourly departures from the route’s two ends.

The trolley is free to ride, and the city posts separate ArtHop service information. These evening trips connect several Downtown destinations with Tower District and Fresno State’s Campus Pointe area; holiday exceptions and the current stop map are on the operator’s service pages.
