About Southridge
Southridge’s older residential streets sit east of OU, with Earl Sneed Park and the Boyd–Classen dining corner nearby. Historic-district exterior review and football-day access are practical considerations for a home here.
Older houses east of OU
Southridge lies east of the University of Oklahoma campus. Its older houses range from smaller homes to larger residences, with Tudor Revival and Colonial Revival among the characteristic styles. Much of the development dates from the 1920s through 1950.
The city describes its local historic district as roughly between Macy and Shawnee streets, Classen Boulevard and Oklahoma Avenue. That overlay has its own boundary map; Norman’s approximate neighborhood pin does not establish whether a particular property is covered.
Windows, fences and renovation plans
Within the local historic district, exterior changes can require a Certificate of Appropriateness. Norman specifically includes replacement windows and doors, new fences and paving in its review guidance. Ordinary maintenance with identical materials has exceptions. The Historic Preservation Officer at 405-366-5392 can confirm the process before a homeowner orders materials or starts work.
Earl Sneed Park and the neighborhood tour
Earl Sneed Park, at 1381 Classen Boulevard, is a small neighborhood green space with a gazebo. It is also the starting point for the city’s Southridge historic tour.
The route follows historic residential sites and finishes near Classen Boulevard and East Boyd Street. STQRY Guide provides the city’s audio, written descriptions and map. The tour describes private homes from the surrounding public streets.
A dining stop at Boyd and Classen
The Mont, at 1300 Classen Boulevard near the tour’s finish, offers patio dining and a menu including burgers and Mexican dishes. The restaurant opens daily at 11 a.m.
Route 111 from Brooks and Trout
For a city-bus connection, EMBARK’s Route 111 lists timepoints at Trout Avenue and Brooks Street, with opposite-direction stop IDs 4276 and 4263. It links the campus side of the area with the Norman Transit Center and East Lindsey/Alameda destinations. Local Norman routes are fare-free and run weekdays and Saturdays; regular fixed-route service does not run Sundays.
Football Saturdays change access
Proximity to OU comes with a different traffic pattern on home-football dates. OU’s 2026 guidance warns that ordinary GPS directions may lead to closed streets and supplies game-day routing maps. For a Southridge home, the driveway approach and visitor parking matter as well as the distance to campus: posted city parking restrictions still apply on game days.
