Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park preserves an early hydroelectric generating station beside the American River.

The historic machinery and building illustrate the development of high-voltage alternating-current power and its connection with the growth of Sacramento.
Check the separate opening schedules for the visitor center and main powerhouse before arriving. Allow time to study the equipment and interpretation, and confirm guided activities if you want more technical context. Outdoor grounds access does not guarantee that machinery areas are open. Follow barriers and staff guidance around the historic equipment and river setting.
Visitor details reviewed October 18, 2026. Check official visitor information for current access, admission, and operating arrangements. View on OpenStreetMap.
