Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum brings Japanese landscape traditions to a garden setting in San Diego’s Balboa Park.

Paths connect planted slopes, water features and carefully framed views, while cultural programs add another way to explore the relationship between garden design and Japanese heritage.
Admission is charged, and the lower garden closes before the main grounds. Uneven terrain, hills and narrow passages require attention to route choice; accessible paths are available. Check current opening and photography-permit rules. Pets and outside food are not permitted, and guided group visits require separate arrangements.
Visitor details reviewed October 27, 2026. Consult primary place information for background, and confirm current access and operating arrangements before visiting. View on OpenStreetMap.
