Peabody Essex Museum connects art, design and cultural history in central Salem.

Its collections grew from the city’s maritime connections, and the galleries place works from different regions and periods alongside changing exhibitions. It is a substantial indoor visit within walking distance of the waterfront and Essex Street attractions.
Check the museum calendar and admission options before arriving, including any separate reservations for special experiences or historic properties. Leave enough time for the exhibitions you most want to see rather than trying to cover every collection. The photograph shows an earlier exterior view of the museum’s entrance.
