Port Townsend Historic District preserves a seaport townscape of Victorian homes and commercial buildings.

Decorative residential architecture contrasts with the brick waterfront streets, reflecting the community’s nineteenth-century maritime ambitions and later cultural life.
The photograph shows the actual Barthrop House within the historic townscape. Plan an exterior walk using current local visitor maps, allowing for the slopes between downtown and uptown. Homes, galleries and working businesses retain individual access arrangements. Historic designation grants no access to porches, gardens or interiors. The visitor welcome center can help with walking routes and current street or event restrictions.
