Southport Light Station Museum preserves Kenosha’s historic lighthouse and keeper’s home on Simmons Island.

The nineteenth-century buildings connect the Lake Michigan waterfront with the work of maintaining a navigational light and the domestic lives of the people who tended it.
The museum is seasonal, so check the historical society’s current schedule before traveling for an interior visit or lighthouse climb. Access to the tower is a separate consideration from viewing the exterior and may involve stairs and other restrictions. Pair the stop with a waterfront walk to appreciate the light station’s original maritime setting.
