Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve protects bluff-top habitats around the bay’s ecological reserve.

Coastal sage scrub, grassland and views across the wetlands provide an introduction to a landscape that supports both resident wildlife and migrating birds.
Begin with OC Parks’ visitor information and the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center if it is open. Paths and the center have separate access arrangements, so confirm both before planning a visit. Stay on designated routes to protect sensitive habitats, and allow time for quiet observation rather than expecting wildlife to appear on demand.
Visitor details reviewed October 18, 2026. Check official visitor information for current access, admission, and operating arrangements. View on OpenStreetMap.
