About West End
Providence’s West End includes nineteenth-century houses around the Armory Historic District, Urban Greens on Cranston Street and recreation facilities on Bucklin Street. Dexter Training Ground hosts the seasonal Armory Park Market, while Westminster Street provides a bus connection to downtown.
Older houses around the Armory District
The Armory Historic District is a residential part of the West End centered on Cranston Street Armory and the adjoining Dexter Parade ground. The city describes a stock of mostly mid- to late-nineteenth-century one- and two-family houses, including Greek Revival, Queen Anne and Second Empire buildings.
A grocery store on Cranston Street
Urban Greens Co-op Market is at 93 Cranston Street. The store is open to all shoppers, and its published regular hours are 8 a.m.–8 p.m. every day. That provides a daily food-shopping option alongside the neighborhood’s seasonal farmers market. Hours were checked October 19, 2026.
A Thursday market at Dexter Training Ground
Farm Fresh RI’s Armory Park Market meets at Dexter Training Ground, at Hollywood Road and Parade Street. The operator’s 2026 season runs Thursdays, June 4–October 29, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. or dusk.
Farm Fresh lists cash, credit/debit, EBT, WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program as payment options at its markets. Its guide directs EBT shoppers to the welcome table to exchange funds for market tokens.
Gym and pool facilities on Bucklin Street
The city lists West End Recreation Center at 109 Bucklin Street, with a gym and pool. Published building hours are 3–9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday; Sunday is closed.
The center’s program listings give the activities available through the recreation department. Building hours alone do not establish an open-swim session or a place in a class. The facility details were checked October 19, 2026.
Westminster Street connects with downtown and Olneyville
RIPTA’s published Route 19 Plainfield/Westminster map links Cranston & Westminster with Kennedy Plaza in one direction and Olneyville Square and Plainfield Street in the other. The timetable separates weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service.
