A named downtown apartment example
The Kalthom at 214 South Kalorama Street sits at Kalorama and Thompson. The operator lists a coworking lounge, bike and surfboard storage, controlled building access and parking. The facilities described here belong to this building, rather than every downtown apartment.
Main Street and the bus corridors
Gold Coast Transit’s Route 6 connects the downtown Santa Clara Street stops with Main Street, the hospital area, Ventura Transit Center at Pacific View Mall and Oxnard. Route 16 follows Thompson Boulevard before continuing through downtown toward Oak View and Ojai. Ventura Transit Center is at the mall, rather than on downtown Main Street; that distinction matters for a transfer.
Library service during renovation
As checked October 25, 2026, E.P. Foster Library at 651 East Main Street is closed for renovation, with completion expected in fall 2027. The library’s construction update lists a Monday mobile-library stop near the building from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and directs book returns to other branches. The mobile stop provides borrowing and returns during the closure.
Parking near the coast
The city parking guide distinguishes downtown lots from paid beachfront parking near the pier and Surfers’ Point. It also lists the Ash Street parking area beside the freeway pedestrian overcrossing. The city lists both all-day and four-hour free lots downtown, alongside metered streets. The posted time limit therefore matters even where parking has no charge.
