About Inner Sunset

The Inner Sunset sits beside the southern edge of Golden Gate Park, with Irving Street and Ninth Avenue providing local reference points. The N Judah links this part of the Sunset with the wider city. The San Francisco Botanical Garden’s Ninth Avenue address places a major park destination near the neighborhood’s commercial streets.

The inner part of a larger district

The wider Sunset stretches toward Ocean Beach, with Golden Gate Park along its northern side. The Inner Sunset occupies the part closer to the park’s eastern attractions.

An Inner Sunset address therefore has a different setting from an Ocean Beach destination farther west. Irving Street and Ninth Avenue give a more local point of orientation.

Where the N changes streets

The N Judah follows Irving Street, Ninth Avenue and Judah Street through this part of the city. SFMTA lists stops on Irving and at Ninth Avenue and Irving.

The line continues through the Sunset toward Ocean Beach and in the other direction toward downtown. Its alignment places neighborhood rail stops on several streets rather than one continuous Judah Street segment.

A garden entrance on Ninth Avenue

The San Francisco Botanical Garden lists its address at 1199 Ninth Avenue. It is one of several institutions within the much larger Golden Gate Park landscape.

The operator’s access guide distinguishes the Botanical Garden from the Japanese Tea Garden and Conservatory of Flowers. A visit to one garden does not use every park institution’s entrance.

A neighborhood library on Eighteenth Avenue

Sunset Branch Library is at 1305 Eighteenth Avenue, within the Inner Sunset’s residential streets. Its arched entrance and stone facade give the branch a distinctive public building beyond the Irving Street shops.
