Rental homes, Scenic Highway bus service and the expanded library
About Scotlandville
Scotlandville is a North Baton Rouge community around Southern University, with residential streets beyond the campus. Housing options include single-family rentals with garages and yards, while Routes 10 and 54 connect the area with different parts of the city. Scotlandville Branch Library reopened after expansion in August 2026; proposed Scenic Highway redevelopment remains at the concept stage.
Rental homes with garages and yards
Scotlandville’s housing includes rental houses as well as apartment developments. The city’s housing-development directory identifies Capstone at Scotlandville as an 84-apartment development.
Scotlandville Homes, whose leasing address is 1920 Goudchaux Avenue, offers three- and four-bedroom, two-bathroom single-family rentals. The operator lists garages, kitchen appliances, front and back yards, an on-site community development center and a playground. Its leasing office is open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., at 225-356-6779. Current rent and application requirements come from the leasing team.
Routes 10 and 54 serve different journeys
CATS Route 10 connects its Florida Boulevard terminal, Scotlandville and Baker via Scenic Highway, Highway 19 and Groom Road. CATS says Route 10 absorbed the former Route 70 service; the current routing uses Scenic Highway rather than the old I-110 expressway path. The published timetable includes Highway 19 at Swan Avenue/Scenic Highway and Baker Walmart as timing points.
Route 54 connects Scotlandville with Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport and the Amazon–Cortana transfer point via Harding Boulevard and Airline Highway. The timetable currently linked by CATS shows hourly daytime weekday service and two-hour daytime weekend/holiday service on both routes, with some early and late trips covering only part of a route. CATS links live tracking and rider alerts from its home page; Customer Care is 225-389-8282.
Scotlandville Library reopened after expansion in 2026
Scotlandville Branch Library at 7373 Scenic Highway reopened after renovation and expansion in August 2026. It now has dedicated children’s and teen spaces, collaborative work/study rooms, a conference room and makerspace facilities. Free Wi-Fi is available, and the expanded meeting room can be divided for separate events.
The dedicated Black Heritage area holds the library’s Black history collection and exhibits, with a mural based on the work of local artist and Southern University professor Randell Henry. Usual branch hours are Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–8 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; and Sunday, 2–6 p.m., with holiday exceptions listed separately. Circulation staff can be reached at 225-354-7540.
Scenic Highway redevelopment is still at the concept stage
Build East Baton Rouge’s July 2026 Scotlandville proposal envisions homeownership opportunities, neighborhood-serving retail and shared green space along Scenic Highway. The preliminary concept includes residential lots, a commercial building pad, parking and open space. The agency describes these as early redevelopment visions rather than final construction plans, with funding, feasibility and development partners still part of the next steps.
The broader Scotlandville Community Strategic Plan was adopted into FUTUREBR in 2022. It was developed alongside Southern University’s campus master plan and covers housing, mobility and community gathering spaces in the surrounding neighborhood.
