Fort Griswold

Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park preserves earthworks above the Thames River in Groton, where fighting in 1781 became a defining episode in the community’s Revolutionary War history.

Fort Griswold

The hilltop setting helps visitors understand the defensive position while also providing views across the river toward New London.

Use the park’s visitor information to check access to the monument and museum, which can differ from access to the outdoor battlefield. Allow time to walk the uneven historic landscape and read the interpretation. The photograph shows part of the surviving fort grounds rather than a reconstruction of the battle.
