Maine State Museum interprets the state’s natural and cultural history in Augusta.

Its collections connect landscapes, industries and communities through objects and exhibitions within the state-government campus.
The museum is closed for renovations as of October 18, 2026, with reopening announced for October 24, 2026. Plan around that date only after checking the museum’s latest confirmation and new visitor arrangements. The photograph shows the earlier exterior, before the current reopening program.
